Y’all know that I am Southern, and I do attract many other clients who are Southern with their tastes, traditions, and mindsets. I even have a few clients who have been in the South long enough to be called a Southerner, as well, even if they were born up North – the accent is showing too!
And there are many “transplants” that just love the Southern Charm enough to create interiors that reflect our Southern Accent! I LOVE that too! We do enjoy spreading the hospitality all around…
I believe that the more contemporary Southern interior of the 21st century has a nice mixture of the old and the new, but not very trendy – yet classic – it outlives trendy anytime. We do have keepsakes and beautiful pieces that we like to include in our interiors as well! (and hopefully our children will want some of these special pieces too!)
Let’s talk about it, a little more…… where’s your Southern Accent?
Seriously, our Southern homes are steeped in tradition.
OUR welcoming porches
are graced with rocking chairs for that afternoon cocktail, morning cup of coffee, or perhaps some visiting time sipping on some sweet ice tea!
With comfort a must, why not add some fabulous and attractive conversation areas. Please don’t forget the swing! And if you want to truly take you porch to the 9’s and 10’s, paint the ceiling of your porch, Haint Blue! (Read my blog post on Haint Blue)
Another “must” is a screen door for your back entry to be truly Southern! It gives you the option of a breeze and keeps the bugs out!
In Southern interiors, the Foyer is more than a grand entrance, it’s another room with a wide corridor and beautiful furnishings and accoutrements!
Sometimes with Southerners, “more is more”.

Of course, the Parlor or Sitting Room has evolved into the Living or Family Room, with the needs of this generation for function, and entertaining needs.
But, why not make them grand with fabulous fabrics, warm conversation areas, and with panache. And be sure to include details galore!
Formal Dining Rooms are disappearing in newer floor plans yet enjoyable for those who have them, especially, with large family dining and entertaining! Crystal gas chandeliers set the bar for the chandeliers of today…..whether formal or casual. (A Dining Room conversation will be another blog post, coming soon!)
And with many Southern cooks in the Kitchen, finally the Kitchen has the respect it deserves, on a grand scale!
The Master Bedroom Suite is what you want it to be, but with a serious amount of relaxation, comfort, and ambiance stirred in.
I’ve started working on my Master Bedroom and I’m very excited about my inspirations becoming a reality!
